Chez Chevaux is sincerely grateful to and honored by Emerald Downs for their commitment to ex-racehorses and their support of the organizations that help them. |

Chez Chevaux and Second Chance Ranch will be at
Emerald Downs on Kentucky Derby Day, Saturday, May 3,
2008. Thanks to Emerald Downs, we will be raffling off
some very exciting items! We hope to see you there
and look forward to meeting you in person! |
We'll be adding a "blog" soon to keep you updated with
current events.
Due to the severe weather through 2006 and 2007, we
weren't able to hold our usual Open Houses here at
Chez Chevaux. We cancelled our plans for the 2006
Christmas Party due to windstorms, rain, and power
outages. Our summer and fall 2007 Open House dates
were tabled by unseasonable and severe rain.
On 9/30/2007, we joined Katie Merwick of Second Chance
Ranch at the closing day of the race meet at Emerald
Downs. We are very grateful to ED for their support. They
donated space to us and a wonderful assortment or
items from the Gift Shop that we raffled off to help
support thoroughbred retirement and retraining. And,
it POURED that day as well!
New Years' Day 2008 saw a continuation of the New
Years' Eve windstorm. The wind was so strong (several
gusts nearly blew me over!) that morning, I debated
on whether or not I should turn the horses out. They
all said they wanted to go out, so out they went.
Thank Goodness! At 10:00 an incredible sustained gust
snapped off a 40' upper section of a cedar tree and it
crashed down into Kirbys' empty
paddock... Simultaneously, a 25' section came off the
top of another cedar tree flew uphill into our middle
pasture. Einstein reverted to racing form and galloped
out of harms way! He looked like he was coming out of
the starting gate again when that tree went . A fir came
down, missing the roof of the house by a mere six
inches. The forth tree came down over the arena fence
where Summer and Claire were turned out, and the
fifth came down into Kirby and Coopers' turnout.
Amazingly, the only damage was one broken fence rail!
I will be adding another item to our wish list: A NEW
CHAIN SAW...
The old Stihl finally gave it up that day and a
replacement is needed.
I'm ready for spring!
